Feeling the November slump? You're not alone. As a solo gifted ed teacher juggling multiple grades and schools, it's easy to feel drained. But don't worry – I've got your back with five energizing tips to reignite your passion and boost your effectiveness.
1. Embrace Micro-Breaks
Sneak in 2-5 minute refresh sessions throughout your day. Try:
A quick stretch routine
Mindful breathing exercises
Jotting down three things you're grateful for
These mini-breaks can skyrocket your energy and focus, making you more present for your students.
2. Streamline Your Paperwork
Drowning in admin tasks? Let's fix that:
Use checklists to lessen that cognitive load (I have my agenda and child find checklist below)
Use Google Forms for paperwork that you copy & use frequently (My Teacher Observation Checklist of Gifted Characteristics & my classroom screener are linked below)
Try Trello for visual task management
Batch similar tasks (e.g., all IEP paperwork) for maximum efficiency
3. Connect with Your Tribe
You're not on this journey alone! Join our vibrant community of gifted ed teachers:

Remember, collaboration beats isolation every time.
4. Shake Things Up with Your Own "Genius Hour"
Reignite your creativity with a weekly "Genius Hour":
Set aside 60 minutes for professional exploration
Choose a topic you're passionate about in gifted education
Research, brainstorm, or create something new
Share your discoveries with your students or peers
This practice can spark fresh ideas and renew your enthusiasm for teaching.
5. Practice Mindful Moments
Try this quick mindfulness exercise:
Set a 2-minute timer
Close your eyes and focus on your breath
When your mind wanders, gently bring it back to your breathing
Take a Gratitude Walk (I first read about this from Jon Gordon). When walking to get copies or close your door, list one thing for which you are grateful with every step.
Pray or Meditate. I often do this before challenging classes, naming each student by name and their strengths.
Do this before challenging classes or meetings to reduce stress and sharpen your focus.
Remember, you're doing incredible work! These strategies can help you reclaim your time and joy in teaching gifted minds. Want more personalized support? Check out our 1:1 coaching sessions or join our membership community for ongoing resources and collaboration.
Let's banish that November burnout together and finish the year strong!
